This event marks the largest surrender of the American Civil War. In April 1865, Major General William T. Sherman and General Joseph Johnston met at the farm of James and Nancy Bennett to negotiate the terms of surrender of the Army of Tennessee. The events will be recreated at Bennett Place State Historic Site. Living history encampments, Stacking of Arms Ceremony, exhibits and displays, historians and authors, and Civil War musicians are part of this commemorative event. Admission is FREE. Events are 10am-4pm on Saturday and 10am-3pm on Sunday. Visitor Center which includes the museum gallery and film, "Dawn of Peace" are open.
